Dear Dr. Roberta,
I’m a senior citizen and made a terrible mistake when I married my husband three years ago. All day long he criticizes me and makes me feel worthless. I can’t divorce him without losing my money. I don’t wish that he dies, but I sure don’t wish that he keeps living. Please give me some advice.

Dear Senior,
My advice is that you should act ‘as if.’ Act as if your husband was not there and then go about your daily life. Make friends and find activities. Act as if your husband’s criticisms were directed to someone else and never take them personally. Do not give your husband the power to make you feel worthless. Listen to his words and then just shrug them off. Act as if he is not important to you. Try this every day for one month and you may begin to enjoy him.
