Dear Dr. Roberta,
I try to be a good person. I try to be spiritual and kind. But, I am not proud to say that I am jealous of my coworker. He has an easy time doing our work, everyone likes him, and he is good at sports and socializes easily. I make a little more money than he does but I struggle so hard to do everything that comes naturally to him. What should I do?
Envious, NY
Dear Envious,
You should not be so hard on yourself, stop looking at him, and instead concentrate on what comes naturally to you. Figure out what you are good at and go for it. It’s silly to socialize with people you are not comfortable with if you’d prefer being with others or being by yourself. And it’s silly to play sports if you’d rather be playing a musical instrument or playing a video game or volunteering in a soup kitchen. It’s never a good idea to try to be what you are not.
